BELGRADE — Crvena zvezda have announced the signing of Cameroonian centre Christian Koloko, with the 211 cm big man set to make his EuroLeague debut after four seasons in the NBA. The Belgrade club confirmed the deal on social media, moving urgently to reinforce a depleted frontcourt while holding a 4-2 record after six rounds in the EuroLeague.
Koloko was selected in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors and spent two years in Canada before strengthening the Los Angeles Lakers for one season. He also featured for the Memphis Grizzlies and the Atlanta Hawks during his time in the world's strongest league, and while several clubs showed interest, Zvezda were the most persistent to secure his signature.
The signing addresses a pressing need in the centre position for the red-and-whites, who have been struggling since the start of the season. Johnathan Motley suffered an injury and will be absent from the court for some time, with the same fate befalling Ebuka Izundu, forcing Zvezda to react urgently in the market.
At 211 cm, Koloko offers immediate size and rim protection as Zvezda look to build on their strong start to the campaign. His arrival provides crucial depth through the demanding EuroLeague schedule as the Serbian champions manage the absences of their two injured centres.
