TEL AVIV — Hapoel Tel Aviv capped a perfect week with three wins in five days across three different competitions, edging Red Star 81-80 on Sept. 29 in Belgrade, defeating Real Madrid 102-98 on Oct. 1 at home, and finishing last night with a 79-76 Winner League Cup victory over Nes Ziona to complete a clean sweep.
The demanding stretch opened on the road during the EuroLeague double week. Dimitris Itoudis’ team traveled to Belgrade and came away with an 81-80 win over Red Star in the opening game of the double week. The narrow road victory set the foundation for a week that required three games in five days against three different opponents.
Two days later, Hapoel returned to its home court for another major EuroLeague test. On Oct. 1, Itoudis’ side delivered a statement result with a 102-98 victory over Real Madrid, making it back-to-back wins in the competition and maintaining a perfect record through the double-week slate in a high-scoring contest.
The run concluded in Winner League Cup play. Hapoel held off Nes Ziona 79-76 last night to secure its third win in five days and extend the streak to three straight. The perfect run allowed Itoudis’ team to close a particularly demanding week in the best possible way, with consecutive EuroLeague wins followed by a cup victory.
