MADRID — The Liga Endesa 2026-27 season has started with a historic offensive explosion. The nine games of the opening round combined for 1,706 points, an average of 94.8 points per team, the highest scoring average ever recorded on an opening weekend in league history, as announced by the acb.
The round produced three games in which both teams scored at least 100 points, the first time that has happened in the ACB era, and seven teams in total reached triple figures. FC Barcelona led the way with a 119-101 victory over Leyma Coruña, the third-highest single-team total on an opening round in the ACB era. Rio Breogan edged Asisa Joventut 110-104, while iLERNA Lleida earned a 100-105 road win over Valencia Basket, and Surne Bilbao also hit 107 points. Three games surpassed 200 combined points.
The 94.8-point average eclipses the previous opening-round record of 90.9 points per team set in the 1986-87 season. According to the acb, fans must go back to 1987 to find any single round with a higher scoring average. The total of 1,706 points also establishes a new reference including the former Liga Nacional era, with seven teams reaching 100 points in the same weekend for the first time.
The record start continues a clear upward scoring trend in recent seasons. The opening-round average was 87.2 points in 2023-24 and 84.7 in 2025-26, well below this season's mark. League-wide, the average rose from 81.5 points per team per game in 2022-23 to 83.2 in 2023-24 and 86.2 in 2024-25, before climbing to 88.2 last season, the second-best mark in competition history.
