PARIS — Asvel claimed a dramatic 98-96 victory away to Paris in the opening game of the fourth round of the EuroLeague, surviving a last-second three-point attempt from Nadir Hifi to secure their second win of the season in the French derby.
Patty Mills led Asvel with 21 points, while Tremont Waters added 19 and Both Gach scored 17 in a high-scoring contest that produced 29 combined three-pointers. Hifi delivered a career-high 30 points for Paris but missed the potential game-winner in the final seconds after earlier losing a crucial ball that allowed Waters to put the visitors ahead entering the last minute.
Neither side managed to pull away in a spectacular, back-and-forth affair defined by a flurry of shooting from beyond the arc. With ten seconds remaining, Bolomboy hit one free throw to give Tony Parker’s Asvel a two-point advantage at 98-96, and Hifi’s late attempt to be the hero for the hosts failed to drop as the visitors held on to celebrate.
The result leaves Asvel with a 2-2 record, while Paris slip to one win and three losses. The French rivals could not be separated until the dramatic finish, with the visitors ultimately favoured by Hifi’s late miss.
