MADRID — Gabriel Deck's left shoulder injury is more serious than Real Madrid initially expected, head coach Pedro Martinez revealed after Real Madrid's emphatic 120-83 victory over Manresa. The Argentine forward was injured on Tuesday and missed Madrid's EuroLeague win over Partizan, with his recovery timeline yet to be determined.
Martinez said the extent of the problem only became clear after further assessment. “Initially, the injury is more serious than we thought. But I don’t know the exact timeline or the treatment he will receive,” he told reporters, adding that the club are expected to provide an update on his condition soon. The same left shoulder had already troubled Deck while on international duty, when he felt discomfort during Argentina's 89-75 win over Puerto Rico in the 2027 World Cup qualifiers in late August.
That discomfort proved to be a precursor to a further setback, as Deck subsequently left Argentina's qualifier against Canada in the second quarter without returning. The recurrence has now forced him out at club level, ruling him out of the EuroLeague fixture against Partizan.
Martinez admitted he does not yet know the exact treatment Deck will require or how long he will be sidelined. Real Madrid have not set a timeline for his return and are awaiting the club's medical update before outlining the next steps in his recovery.
