PERISTERI — Olympiacos captured another Stoiximan Super Cup with a 101-96 victory over PAOK in the final at the Andreas Papandreou arena in Peristeri, securing a fifth consecutive title in the competition. Sasha Vezenkov led the winners and was named MVP and Top Scorer of the final.
The 31-year-old Bulgarian power forward finished with 25 points on 6-of-11 two-pointers, 2-of-3 three-pointers and 7-of-8 free throws, adding 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in 34:23. Speaking to SKAI TV after the win, Vezenkov kept the focus on what remains. “The only important thing is that we won the Super Cup. It is our fifth goal. We knew we lost the fourth in Abu Dhabi [89-93 to Real Madrid in the EuroLeague Super Cup final at Etihad Arena]. We have three more ahead of us,” he said.
Vezenkov stressed that the Super Cup was the smallest objective on Olympiacos’ calendar and that improvement is still required. “The important thing is that we won the smallest goal of the season. We had lost the next one immediately after in Abu Dhabi. We have three more ahead of us, which are from February onwards. The most important thing is to improve,” he said. He also added: “Congratulations to PAOK, who made a tremendous effort. Greek basketball is on the rise.”
The forward closed with a message on health and competitiveness for the season ahead. “All we want is to stay healthy like us and all the teams and to have a competitive Championship,” he said. Olympiacos now turns its attention to the three remaining goals from February onward after rebounding from the 89-93 loss to Real Madrid in Abu Dhabi.
