RIYADH — Canelo Alvarez is scheduled to return to the ring on Saturday, October 31, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he will challenge Christian Mbilli for the WBC super-middleweight world title. Alvarez has been sidelined following an elbow injury sustained after his loss to Terence Crawford, and he now aims to reclaim a world title in the 168lb division.
While Alvarez focuses on his upcoming title challenge, two-division world champion Jermall Charlo has signaled his intent to compete at the top of the super-middleweight class. Charlo, who has fought only twice since 2021, is set to face Australia’s Koen Mazoudier on the undercard of Sebastian Fundora’s WBC super-welterweight world title defense against Ermal Hadribeaj on Saturday, October 17, in Las Vegas.
“The current fighters that’s in the division, they’re aware of who I am,” Charlo told Ring Magazine regarding his move to 168lbs. “They know what I possess. It’s just a matter of getting those guys in the ring to make history, and I’m here for it. I’m new to 168. I’m here to take over 168.”
The October 17 card in Las Vegas will also feature Brandon Figueroa, who is slated to attempt the first defense of his WBA featherweight crown against Japan’s Tomoki Kameda in the co-main event.
