MEXICO CITY — Canelo Alvarez has detailed his long-term retirement strategy, confirming he expects to compete in three or four more bouts before concluding his professional career. The 36-year-old, who remains active in the sport, is currently preparing for a high-stakes clash against WBC super-middleweight champion Christian Mbilli in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 31 October.

Alvarez, who lost his undisputed super-middleweight crown to Terence Crawford in September 2025, is now focused on reclaiming the WBC title. Speaking to ESPN, the Mexican fighter expressed a clear desire to host his final professional appearance in his home country. “I want my last fight to be in Mexico,” Alvarez said. “I was at Estadio Azteca and it’s a stadium that gives you an incredible vibe. I pictured myself fighting there.”

The boxer confirmed that he has already held discussions regarding the potential venue with Emilio Azcarraga, the chairman of Televisa and owner of Club America. While Alvarez’s immediate focus remains on the upcoming challenge against Mbilli, his future path will be determined by the outcome of that fixture. Should he overcome the Frenchman, he may pursue further title opportunities, though his final ring appearances remain subject to his performance in the coming months.
