BRONDBY — Former super-middleweight world champion Mikkel Kessler is set to return to the professional ring on Saturday, 28 November, nearly 12 years after his retirement. The Danish fighter, who holds a professional record of 46-3 with 35 knockouts, is scheduled to headline an MF Pro card in Brondby against Bernard Joseph, who enters the bout with a record of 12-4-1.
The return has drawn comment from Carl Froch, a former rival who faced the Dane twice during their careers. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Froch expressed concern regarding the comeback of the 47-year-old. “He is fit, he is strong and he is healthy, but he is 47 years old! Why is he coming back? I hope it’s not for the money,” Froch stated. “I would rather not see him back in a professional boxing ring at 47 years old, but all the best to him.”
Kessler and Froch shared a significant history in the ring, with Kessler winning their initial 2010 encounter in Denmark to claim the WBC title. Froch later avenged the defeat in 2013, securing a unanimous-decision victory to defend his IBF belt and capture Kessler’s WBA crown. The upcoming match between Kessler and Joseph will be available to watch live on DAZN.
