LAS VEGAS — Dana White has publicly addressed the departure of Shakur Stevenson from his Zuffa Boxing venture, confirming that the undefeated fighter has been granted a release from his contract. The split occurs after the two parties were in business for several months without staging a single bout.
Speaking at a UFC press conference, White dismissed claims of animosity regarding the resolution. "Listen, man, I think that everyone involved in it is happy with where we’re at with it," White said. "I’ve nothing bad to say about him or his team. I offered him the release and they accepted. We got to a position where we both agreed we were cool with the release."
Stevenson, who had been linked to potential match-ups against Devin Haney, Gary Antuane Russell and Manny Pacquiao during his tenure with the promotion, stated that he spent eight weeks in training camps for bouts that failed to materialise. Following his release, Stevenson confirmed his intention to launch his own promotional outfit to facilitate future match-ups.
