RIYADH — David Benavidez has voiced his disapproval of the upcoming WBC super-middleweight title contest between Canelo Alvarez and Christian Mbilli. The pair are scheduled to meet in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, 31 October, with Alvarez aiming to reclaim the title.
Speaking to FightHype, Benavidez expressed a lack of interest in the pairing, suggesting that Alvarez should have pursued a bout with Diego Pacheco instead. “Nobody wants to see that,” Benavidez said. “I think it would have been better if he fought Diego Pacheco. Diego Pacheco has a way bigger name than Mbilli.”
Alvarez has been inactive since his defeat to Terence Crawford last September, a result that saw the Mexican lose his collection of titles. Mbilli, who was elevated to full champion following a draw against Lester Martinez, enters the fixture as the underdog. Meanwhile, Pacheco is set to return to the ring on Saturday, 18 November, to face Darius Fulghum, a performance that could position him for a future high-profile encounter.
