ZAGREB — IBF world champion Filip Hrgovic has declared Lennox Lewis the greatest heavyweight of all time. The Croatian, who recently secured the world title following a victory over Moses Itauma, shared his assessment of boxing history during a recent discussion with Rex K-Addo.
Hrgovic, known as 'El Animal', expressed a clear preference for the skill and speed demonstrated by fighters from the 1980s and 1990s over earlier eras. "Heavyweight, for me, the GOAT is Lennox Lewis," Hrgovic stated. He further noted his admiration for pound-for-pound figures including Manny Pacquiao, Bernard Hopkins, and Oscar De La Hoya, suggesting that the 1990s represented the pinnacle of the sport.
The IBF champion is currently preparing for his first title defence against Frank Sanchez, which is expected to take place in Zagreb this February. Hrgovic has also expressed interest in a future rematch with WBO champion Daniel Dubois, who recently secured a two-round victory over Fabio Wardley. Should both fighters remain successful in their respective spring fixtures, a potential unification clash could be aligned for mid-2027.
The conversation surrounding the heavyweight division follows Eddie Hearn's recent comments regarding Anthony Joshua's reaction to Dubois' victory over the weekend.
