LAS VEGAS — Jermall Charlo has withdrawn injured from his planned bout with Kane Mazoudier on 17 October, with former WBA titlist Jose Armando Resendiz stepping in as his replacement on the Sebastian Fundora vs Ermal Hadribeaj show in Las Vegas.

The withdrawal marks the second time in three months the Charlo-Mazoudier pairing has collapsed. Charlo (34-0, 23 KO) failed to secure a visa for their scheduled clash in New South Wales this summer, and despite Mazoudier (16-4-1, 6 KO) offering local appeal, PBC moved the bout onto the Fundora-Hadribeaj card. Charlo has now fought just three times in six years.

Resendiz (16-3, 11 KO) arrives fresh from a turbulent run at super middleweight. The Mexican upset Caleb Plant to claim the WBA belt last year before losing it to Jaime Munguia in his first defence. Though naturally a middleweight and coming off defeat, he replaces Charlo against Mazoudier, a blown-up super welterweight, in a match-up that remains stylistically awkward.

The remainder of the card is unchanged, with Brandon Figueroa’s featherweight title defence against Tomoki Kameda still intact for the Las Vegas bill.
