SAN ANTONIO — Vasiliy Lomachenko has confirmed he intends to end his retirement and return to boxing in 2027 at super featherweight, targeting the winner of tonight’s clash between Emanuel Navarrete and O’Shaquie Foster. The Ukrainian discussed the plans live on DAZN from San Antonio, stating the victor will hold three world title belts, a key factor as he still aims to become undisputed.
Lomachenko said he left the sport because 135 was not his natural weight and will now campaign at 130, a division he has not fought in since beating Guillermo Rigondeaux in 2017. Now 38, he turns 39 in February, and admitted his comeback remains dependent on how his body responds to training. “During the preparation, it looks very good, but nobody knows what will happen after another month or two of preparation,” he said. “We’ll see. But right now, everything’s good.”
It was noted that Lomachenko was speaking at a Top Rank event. He fought his entire professional career under the Top Rank banner and only raised his comeback plans after his contract with the promoter had officially ended, though he has not ruled out fighting for Top Rank again. Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KO) last fought in May 2024, when he stopped George Kambosos Jr on the road in Australia to win the IBF lightweight title.
There had been talk of a bout with Gervonta “Tank” Davis following that victory, but the fight did not materialise. Lomachenko said he feels good in his return to training as he builds towards a 2027 return at his preferred weight.
