MANCHESTER — Tottenham Hotspur salvaged an injury-time equaliser to secure a draw against Manchester United despite being reduced to ten men after Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for headbutting Luke Shaw. The flashpoint and late leveller dominated BBC Sport's player ratings from the Premier League clash, with Tottenham are now level after United had led.
United had taken the lead through Bryan Mbeumo, who turned smartly to score after being supplied by Matheus Cunha, but Dominic Solanke eventually got Tottenham's equaliser after Lisandro Martinez was totally outmuscled and Sandro Tonali's cross created the chance. Bentancur, introduced on 65 minutes for Lucas Bergvall, earned a 1 out of 10 for what was described as an idiotic reaction to Shaw's shove and was rightly dismissed, while Shaw himself was rated 6 and considered lucky to avoid a red card for his reactionary shove.
Mbeumo and Savio were the highest-rated players with 8 each. Mbeumo led the line with limited support but took his goal well, while Savio's speed was a huge threat to the home defence and his goalbound shot was turned away by Kobbie Mainoo, who earned a 7 for an excellent block. For United, Senne Lammens was given a 5 after a major early error, further mis-control and a pass straight out of play, while Bruno Fernandes also scored 5 as a shadow of the player who deservedly won all the player of the year awards last season.
Elsewhere, Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro both received 7s, with Yoro producing an excellent tackle to deny Jan Paul van Hecke, while Martinez was marked down to 6. Tonali impressed for Tottenham with a 7 after being given far too much room in the centre of the pitch to dominate, and Solanke, captaining a much-changed starting line-up, was rated 6 despite wasting a glorious early chance before firing home the late equaliser. After the opportunity to rate players closed, the scores displayed represent the average from all submissions by BBC Sport users.
