LONDON — Alyssa Thompson scored the only goal as Chelsea secured a 1-0 win against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge to end the Gunners' long unbeaten run in the Barclays Women's Super League.
Arsenal failed to make early dominance count, striking the post twice through Kim Little and Mariona Caldentey before Thompson broke the deadlock. Keira Walsh's strike from distance was well kept out by Anneke Borbe, but the goalkeeper was left helpless when Thompson pounced in the box to fire home the rebound in emphatic style from close range.
The Gunners, who had drawn their last two WSL matches, improved in the second half and pushed for an equaliser. Chloe Kelly saw an angled drive blocked and Alessia Russo had a shot charged down, but Chelsea saw out the closing stages to secure a third WSL win of the season. The defeat ended Arsenal's unbeaten streak in the league stretching back to October 2025, a run of 20 games without defeat before the trip to west London.
Victory takes Chelsea to within two points of league leaders Manchester City at the top of the table, while Arsenal are already seven points adrift ahead of their meeting with the champions on October 4.
