LONDON — Jon Rahm will forfeit the millions of dollars remaining on his LIV Golf contract to secure a clean exit from the league and regain control of his image rights and those of his Legion XIII team. The Spaniard has ruled himself out of LIV Golf 2.0 and is seeking a full separation and cancellation of the deal he signed in December 2023, reportedly worth more than $300m.

According to the separation agreement filed during LIV's latest bankruptcy hearing, Rahm is prepared to release LIV from "all monetary and economic claims" arising from his contracts in what is described as "a complete economic walk-away" between the two parties. The terms cover any outstanding prize money, bonus money or annual payments due for the remainder of his contract. While some reports suggest as much as $100m remains owed, court papers list Rahm as LIV's largest unsecured creditor with $7.47m currently owed, and he has earned around $107m in on-course earnings across three seasons on LIV.

Under the agreement, Rahm would leave equity in Legion XIII on the table — the team equity held by all captains — but would regain his personal Jon Rahm and 'Rahmbo' image rights and take possession of the Legion XIII trademark. The filing includes a specific clause preventing him from using the Legion XIII marks in another team league, with Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods' TGL hi-tech simulator league explicitly named.

If the agreement receives final approval at a court hearing on 5 November, Rahm would be released from his contract and free to negotiate with other tours, including the PGA Tour, although Brian Rolapp has stated there will be no returning member programme this time. Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith all turned down the last offer that Brooks Koepka accepted to secure his PGA Tour return, and a full schedule on the DP World Tour now looks the most likely outcome for Rahm in 2027. He is set to next appear in the DP World Tour Play-offs at the Abu Dhabi Championship and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

LIV Golf chief executive Scott O'Neil has until 25 October to secure enough player signings for LIV Golf 2.0 to complete a $300m investment deal from BC Partners, a deadline that can shift if required. Insiders remain bullish that a critical mass of signings will be achieved to satisfy BC Partners, with officials said to have been fully prepared for Rahm's departure as attention turns to getting the new league off the ground next season. The situation unfolds as DP World Tour to Ban LIV Golf Players From 2027 Membership has put future eligibility in focus.
