MADRID — Eugenio Chacarra and Jacob Skov Olesen share the lead at 13-under par heading into the closing stretch of the Open de Espana, with a congested leaderboard promising a tight finish at Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
With a handful of holes remaining, the pair sit one clear of Joe Dean in third at 12-under, while three players are at 11-under, two at 10-under and three at nine-under. Dan Brown has set the clubhouse target at 11-under after carding a seven-under-par final round of 64, fuelled by a back nine of 29.
Joe Dean and Grant Forrest led going into the final round, but charges from the chasing pack have reshaped the contest, including a move from home favourite Chacarra. Brown narrowly missed out on victory last year after losing a play-off to Marco Penge, and the live updates suggested his latest total may fall a few shots shy this time.
With so many players still in contention, the prestigious national open remains wide open. Chacarra’s late push follows his battling 66 with a broken toe earlier in the week, adding further momentum to his bid for a home victory in Madrid.
