ARKANSAS — Yuna Nishimura captured her first LPGA Tour title in emphatic fashion this past Sunday, cruising to a five-shot victory at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship at 21-under par to tie the tournament scoring record. The breakthrough also delivered the first win on a major professional tour for the Callaway Quantum Mini Spinner, the fairway wood Nishimura had in her bag.
Nishimura gamed the Mini Spinner 7-wood, a club released at the end of July and offered in multiple lofts. The Japanese star played a direct role in its development, providing feedback to Callaway’s R&D team throughout the testing phase after telling the company she needed more spin and a steeper landing angle for long approaches into par 3s and 4s. "I’m incredibly happy to win with a club that I was involved in developing from the very beginning. It delivers everything I’m looking for in a club—the right amount of spin, the trajectory I want, and the workability I need. The short wood is a key club for me, and the Mini Spinner makes it so much easier to hit the shots I visualise. That's the Mini Spinner's strength, and why it's one of my favourite clubs," Nishimura said.
After adding the 7-wood to her tournament setup, Nishimura said she saw an increase of about 600 to 700 rpm in spin along with a higher peak flight that provided the stopping power needed on firmer greens. The design centers on internal weighting, with Callaway using a lightweight carbon sole to reposition mass higher in the head paired with an Ai-optimized high-spin face. In testing, the 21° Mini Spinner produced 10 mph more ball speed, launched 5 degrees higher and spun almost 1,000 rpm more than a Callaway Quantum Max 22° 5-iron to reach a 131-foot peak height, with improved consistency on mishits. The Mini Spinner is also built 0.75 inches shorter than a standard Quantum Max 7-wood to promote center contact and a slightly steeper angle of attack.
Built to inspire confidence at address as a bridge between irons and longer woods, the Quantum Mini Spinner has already become the No. 1 selling fairway wood in Japan. Its combination of easy launch, added spin and higher flight gives players a reliable option for long-range approaches where long irons and hybrids can be difficult to control.
