BOSTON — The Boston Bruins have locked up promising forward Marat Khusnutdinov on a three-year, $11.85-million extension carrying a $3.95 million average annual value, keeping the 24-year-old under contract until the conclusion of the 2029-30 season.
The Moscow native had been set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season and has made a strong start to the current campaign with two goals and five points in 10 games. That follows a breakout 2025-26 season in which he registered 15 goals and 33 points in 77 games for the Bruins.
With the deal finalised, the Bruins are projected to have just over $6.4 million in cap space for the 2027-28 season, with forwards Casey Mittelstadt, Pavel Zacha, Sean Kuraly and Matthew Poitras, and defenceman Mason Lohrei, all set to become free agents at the end of the season.
Khusnutdinov was originally acquired by Boston on 6 March 2025 from the Minnesota Wild, along with Jakub Lauko and a 2026 sixth-round pick, in exchange for Justin Brazeau. Selected by the Wild in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft, he spent nearly three full seasons in the KHL with SKA St. Petersburg and Sochi HC before making his NHL debut late in the 2023-24 season with Minnesota, where he recorded three points in 16 games. In 178 career games between the Wild and Bruins, he has 23 goals and 54 points.
