TORONTO — Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired forward Aatu Raty from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forwards Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr, the clubs announced on Thursday as both sides look to shake up their forward depth.

The 23-year-old Raty scored four goals and 14 points in 66 games with the Canucks last season and won gold with Finland at the IIHF World Championships earlier this year, where he posted four goals and seven points in 10 games. Selected in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders, he has recorded 14 goals and 29 points in 118 career NHL games between Vancouver and New York, and won the Calder Cup in 2025 with the Abbotsford Canucks with three assists in six games. "We want to thank Aatu for all he has done for the organization, and we wish him well in Toronto," Canucks GM Ryan Johnson said in a statement. "By acquiring Jacob and Brandon this move gives our group two new young players to work with as we continue to look for ways to improve our overall depth."

Quillan, 24, joined the Maple Leafs on 2 April 2024 after signing as an undrafted college free agent out of Quinnipiac University. He has played 24 NHL games, recording a goal and three points, and has appeared in 114 career AHL games for the Toronto Marlies with 74 points. He added nine points (3-6-9) in 24 career AHL play-off games and captured the Calder Cup with the Marlies last season.

Buhr was also an undrafted free agent out of Union College, signing a one-year contract with the Maple Leafs on 16 March. He played five games for the Marlies on an amateur tryout and registered two assists, with Vancouver now adding both young forwards to bolster their organisational depth.
