EDMONTON — After an action-packed opening six days of the 2026-27 NHL season, fantasy hockey has already been shaken up, with New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin scoring the first goalie goal in franchise history and the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks combining for 27 goals across a wild two-game set. Winnipeg Jets forward Kyle Connor helped his side hold on for a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday after scoring twice to build a 3-0 lead, while Edmonton defenceman Evan Bouchard sits top of the fantasy scoring charts.
Bouchard has rewarded those who drafted him high, following a five-point opening night with four goals and four assists for eight points through three games to lead all fantasy scorers. Teammates Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl sit right behind him, and both were top-five fantasy picks whose fast starts are likely to have won opening match-ups single-handedly for many owners.
At the other end, Dallas Stars have stumbled badly. The Stars have dropped their first two games and have scored just one goal in that span, with Jason Robertson — who spent much of the off-season negotiating a new contract — held without a point and finishing minus-three in the opener against the St. Louis Blues before another quiet outing in defeat to the Nashville Predators. Mikko Rantanen, Wyatt Johnston, Roope Hintz and Thomas Harley have also disappointed, though fixtures against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres offer a chance to respond.
Winnipeg Jets have been lifted by Kyle Connor, who remains one of the league's most lethal and underrated forwards despite persistent trade noise around goaltender Connor Hellebuyck in the off-season. Connor opened the campaign with two points against the Boston Bruins and then struck twice with highlight-reel finishes against Detroit, and coming off a down year he looks well placed to finish near the top of fantasy scoring.
Florida Panthers have also endured a slow start, with one win from three games after an off-season that saw Jacob Markstrom and Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk arrive to play alongside brother Matthew. Brady Tkachuk has no points and is minus-three, while Sam Reinhart and Seth Jones have started slowly, and captain Aleksander Barkov — expected to bounce back after missing all of last season — suffered another significant injury in the second game and has returned to long-term injured reserve. Brad Marchand returned and scored on Sunday night, but Florida lost again and must right the ship quickly.
