LAS VEGAS — Brendan Allen and Christian Leroy Duncan meet in the middleweight main event of UFC Vegas 122 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas on Saturday, with top-five positioning at 185 pounds on the line.
Currently ranked No. 4 in the UFC's middleweight rankings, Allen arrives on a three-fight win streak yet remains in a no man's land near the top of the division and outside the immediate title picture. Despite his run of form, he has struggled to gain traction towards a title shot and must now defend his standing against a surging contender.
Ranked No. 10, Duncan — known as "CLD" — charges into the headliner on a five-fight winning streak. He comes off a unanimous decision win over former title challenger Jared Cannonier and is targeting Allen's place inside the middleweight top five as he seeks to announce himself as a serious title challenger.
Both men made their walks with contrasting demeanour as the main event approached, with Duncan the picture of confidence without cockiness and Allen carrying a little more energy and intensity. The clash will determine whether Allen can continue his long climb towards contention or whether Duncan extends his surge into the division's elite.
