EDMONTON — Katlyn Cerminara put her significant size and reach advantage to decisive use at UFC Edmonton on Saturday, stopping Mackenzie Stiller via first-round TKO at 4:46. The finish came after a patient, jab-led display that punished Stiller's relentless forward pressure before a late barrage forced the referee to intervene.
Stiller came out firing from the opening bell, throwing combinations and mixing punches and kicks to close the distance and turn the bout into a brawl. Cerminara remained composed behind her jab, landing a clean right-hand counter off a body kick and finding rhythm with one-two combinations and knees as Stiller rushed inside. Stiller tried to change the momentum with spinning backfists and a slick head kick that briefly caught Cerminara, and even shot for a takedown, but Cerminara escaped and immediately resumed striking as her length kept Stiller largely out of range.
The momentum shifted decisively late in the round when Cerminara landed a shot that visibly hurt Stiller. She smelled blood and pressed forward, unloading with a barrage of strikes as Stiller struggled to defend herself, prompting the referee to step in and wave off the contest.
The result rewarded Cerminara's discipline and sharp counter striking, as she refused to be drawn into a brawl and instead picked Stiller apart before securing the impressive stoppage.
