SALT LAKE CITY — The UFC 332 fight card has a late shakeup, with Marcus McGhee (11-2) now set to face newcomer Anthony Romero (7-2, 1 NC) this Saturday in Salt Lake City. The promotion announced Wednesday that Romero steps in on just three days' notice as a replacement for Bernardo Sopaj, who was forced to withdraw due to injury, with the bout now taking place at featherweight after originally being scheduled for bantamweight.
McGhee, known as "The Maniac," recently got back on the winning track after suffering his first UFC loss to Petr Yan. He earned a unanimous decision nod over John Yannis this past June to improve his octagon record to 5-1 and is currently No. 15 at 135 pounds in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings.
Romero has competed primarily for Los Angeles' Up Next Fighting promotion. In his most recent fight, he successfully defended the UNF bantamweight title with a first-round knockout over Yuma Horiuchi, and now gets a short-notice opportunity for his promotional debut.
UFC 332 is headlined by a vacant flyweight title fight between Natalia Silva and Wang Cong. The late change to McGhee's bout adds to a card built around that championship main event, with Wang Cong says her UFC 332 title shot was earned, not surprising heading into fight week in Salt Lake City.
