VITORIA — Baskonia have parted ways with head coach Paolo Galbiati after just over 12 months in charge, with Velimir Perasovic expected to take over for a fourth spell in Vitoria. The Spanish club announced the decision on social media following a poor opening to the EuroLeague season, where they hold a 1-4 record after five rounds.
Galbiati arrived in Vitoria after an excellent stint with Trento and guided Baskonia to the Copa del Rey last season. This term, however, little has gone right. Alongside the slow start in Europe, the club parted ways with Alex Len without the centre playing a game, while Markus Howard's departure to Zenit after four seasons further unsettled the squad.
Perasovic is now poised to return to the helm. The Croatian has already led Baskonia on three previous occasions — from 2005 to 2007, from 2015 to 2016 and in the 2018/19 season — and won the Copa del Rey and the Supercup with the club in 2006.
He has spent the past five years as head coach of Unics Kazan. Baskonia will now look to the experienced appointment to stabilise their EuroLeague campaign and lift them from their early-season slide.
