MALAGA — Unicaja Malaga captain Alberto Diaz will miss an estimated six to eight weeks after suffering a muscular injury to the hamstring in his left leg during the team's visit to Real Madrid in Liga Endesa Jornada 1.

The point guard felt pain in his left leg during the third quarter on the Real Madrid court and was unable to return to the floor. Unicaja suffered a double defeat on the trip, losing the game in the final seconds and losing its captain to injury.

Tests conducted this morning after the team's return to Malaga at Hospital Quironsalud Malaga confirmed the left hamstring muscle injury. The club said the evolution of the injury will determine the exact recovery time, though the initial estimate is between six and eight weeks — about two months out.

The setback comes on the opening weekend of the Spanish league season, which produced a record 1,706-point scoring round across Liga Endesa.
